Upgrade your existing Don Barrow Light to the same specification as the all-new rechargeable Don Barrow DB9 map magnifier with microprocessor control and advanced battery management. All are still with the unique interchangeable graticule baseplates.
We can upgrade all Brown and Black lights made since the 1970s. An example in the photos is an early MK2.
DB9 Rechargeable Upgrade
- Adjustable brightness with automatic sleep mode
- Operates on built-in high-capacity lithium polymer battery(LiPo), USB, or accessory adaptor (included)
- The upgrade includes the following accessories:
- Charge cable
- 12 AUX plug and USB Cable
- Cotton Carry bag
- Instruction manual with the history of the Map Magnifier
- Optional Comfort Handle Upgrade
Units can be dropped off and collected from our workshop in Tarvin on weekdays and weekends by appointment

Don Barrow DB9 Upgrade Kit Install Video
Warning: Some older light bodies may need modifications. The kit contains small electronic components that can be damaged during assembly; warranty does not cover physical damage or breakages to kit components during assembly (especially control board sockets.
Please note that on some older lights, the cable access holes were in slightly different locations, and the Magnifier body will need to be modified by plugging the old hole and drilling new ones. We can do this on our workshop jig. This mostly applies to lights with only one cable exit hole. If your light has left and right cable holes with a grommet blocking off one hole, then the kit should be a bolt-in replacement. If in doubt, please email a photo of your light to info @donbarrow.co.uk, and we can verify for you.)
